Section A vs Section B — What's the Difference?
Section A has 35 compulsory questions per subject. Section B has 15 questions out of which you attempt only 10. This gives you a choice — attempt the 10 easiest questions from Section B and skip the difficult ones. Use this strategically to maximise your score!
Marking Scheme
NEET 2024 Marking Scheme

Smart Strategy: The 80% Accuracy Rule
If your accuracy is below 80%, it's better to skip a question than guess. Every wrong answer costs you 5 marks net (+4 potential minus -1 penalty). Only attempt a question if you're reasonably confident — a well-placed skip is smarter than a costly guess.
Exam Rules
Important Rules & Guidelines
- Not compulsory to attempt all questions — You can choose to skip questions, especially in Section B where you only need to attempt 10 out of 15. There is no penalty for unattempted questions.
- Once marked, answers cannot be changed — It is not possible to erase or modify your answer once it is marked on the OMR sheet. Mark carefully and with full confidence.
- Multiple options = Negative marking — If a candidate marks more than one option for a single question, it is treated as an incorrect answer and attracts a -1 mark penalty. Choose only one answer per question.
- Test booklet code must be marked on OMR — Candidates are provided with a rough booklet. The code on the test booklet must be correctly filled on the OMR sheet. Mismatch can lead to disqualification.
- Language preference selected at registration — The paper language (English, Hindi, or regional) must be selected during application. Once selected, it cannot be changed on exam day.
- Rough work in the booklet only — All rough work must be done only in the rough booklet provided. Do not write anything on the OMR sheet other than your answers.
