NEET 2024 Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria

Requirements Criteria of Age, Marks, Percentage to Qualifying NEET

All aspiring medical students who wish to appear for NEET, have to satisfy eligibility criteria prescribed by National Testing Agency (NTA). This criteria consists of various clauses like nationality, age, academic criteria etc. However, Upper Age Limit criteria has been removed by NTA recently.

Some recent amendments to NEET eligibilty criteria are:

  • NTA has removed the ‘Upper Age Limit’ criteria which enables the candidates above 25 years of age to appear for the exam.
  • There will not be restrictions on number of times candidates can attempt NEET exam. Candidates can appear for NEET as many times as they wish, provided they satisfy other eligibility criteria.
  • Candidates who have taken biology as an additional subject are also eligible to apply.

General eligibility criteria for NEET

  • Candidates who have passed or are appearing for class 12th or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology and English as main subjects from a recognized board, are eligible to appear for NEET.
  • Minimum age to appear for NEET is 17 years i.e. candidate must complete 17 years of age in the month of December, in the year in which he will be appearing for NEET.
  • Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply.

Eligibility on the basis of Minimum percentage in Qualifying NEET Exam

  • Candidates belonging to General / Gen-EWS category have to score minimum 50% marks in Qualifying Exam.
  • Candidates belonging to OBC / SC / ST category have to score minimum 40% marks in Qualifying Exam.
  • Candidates belonging to PWD (Persons With Disability) category have to score minimum 45% marks in Qualifying Exam.

NEET eligibility criteria for NRI / Foreign students:

  • Candidates who have studied abroad and want admission in medical colleges in India must have passed in Chemistry, Physics, English, and Biology/Biotechnology with 50% marks in Class XII and their equivalency is determined by the Association of Indian Universities as MCI regulations and the concerned university.
  • This includes candidates who took the IB (International Baccalaureate)/GCSE/Advanced Placement curriculum in school.
  • IB candidates in India are also eligible for NEET.
