The NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national-level medical entrance exam regulated by the NTA (National Testing Agency). Formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), it is conducted once a year in the month of May. NEET serves as the gateway for admission to MBBS/BDS courses offered by both government and private medical colleges throughout India. It is a single-tier examination.

Following the enactment of the NMC Act 2019 in September 2019, NEET-UG became the standardized entrance test for medical colleges across India, including prestigious institutions like the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), which previously conducted separate entrance exams.

Since 2016, NEET has replaced the AIPMT exam. The scores obtained in the NEET examination now determine the allocation of all seats (MBBS/BDS) in medical/dental colleges. Aspiring medical students must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as compulsory subjects in their 10th and 12th grades and must have passed these subjects.

Once the NEET results are announced, the NTA (National Testing Agency) outlines the counseling procedure. During the counseling round, candidates are required to present their passing certificate. It’s important to note that Mathematics marks are not considered in the NEET-Undergraduate exam (NEET-UG).
